The reason of meeting was the premiere of the new Georgian film “Lurdja Tskhenebi”(Blue Horses) last week in “Amirani” cinema. This is one of the films, which was a load for Georgian cinema production during years and at last was finished with the help of the Cinema-Center. Very soon after this film, help will be given to the others and movie-critics decided that they had no right to keep silence.
To tell the truth, the movie-critics wasn’t silent before, but in the condition of non-existence of the professional movie-critical press, when Georgian Mass Media in its majority refuses to give the space to serious critics, the movie-critics’ estimations circled only before small professional group. But in the conditions of deterioration of the level of Georgian cinema, the movie-critics decided that it would be impossible to continue in such way.
The nearest plan of action looks thus: from February the show of last five years films will take place in the Cinema House. After will be the broad public discussion of them in the presence of the movie-critics, authors, cinematographers, Mass Media, concerned society.
With the help of Cinematographers’ Union the movie-critics will establish special Prize and “Anti-Prize”, which will be given to the best and worst films of the year. The movie-critics will hope that this Prize will be traditional and they with its help will express their attitude to the current process in Georgian cinematography.
